A model of maculine elegance. Of simplicity, form, cleanliness and natural beauty. A remedy to the foppery of the 17th and 18th century, made repulsive by men who either transformed it back into exaggerated narcissism or worse - an excuse for men to hide their bodies in the shapeless shadows of poorly tailored nondescript suits.

The absolutely delightful and soul destroying John Barrymore as the Beau... The last few moments of this really get to me.


Incidentally, this film was chosen this year to be TCM's Young Film Composers Competition subject - so we can look forward to a lovely DVD version with lovely new music. Perhas a Barrymore box set? Many of the YFCC submissions can be found on the 'tubes. Many of them are beautiful video quality.
