  • May. 18th, 2007 at 6:10 PM

Certified 18+ (even though its only a cartoon.. haha)

For those of your who were sneaky and saw my other video, this one is better quality, and the final version of the animation as handed in for my portfolio (ie: with music, filters, etc).

Enjoy.

The reason I'm so scarce....

Locked in the belltower making things like this. Many many things like this.

Pete and Dud
The Artist woke one day to discover he had reached new heights of eccentricity. Answering the telephone at noon, he tried to mask his voice to seem as though he hadn't been disturbed from deep slumber. He peeled back his bedclothes to discover he'd been sleeping in the nude, next to two of his pens.

My body felt absolutely dead yesterday. It came to the point where I wanted to get out of bed, but physically couldn't. I need to take it easy on myself.

Yes. So. Friday. Incredible night at Goldsmiths college at a GBST History Month Event hosted by the lovely and dapper Gemma Weeks, at which the Hanky Panky Players were requested to perform. It was a tea party, and cabaret ( I of course indulged in both). and one of the best theatre experiences of my life. I felt a little ill (I couldn't eat all day) because of nerves, but it wasn't nearly as bad as usual, because I was well-rehearsed and had loads of faith in my fellow performers.

The line up was pretty amazing. Some solo singers, sexy and unique burlesque dancers, two theatrical troupes, Hazel's dramatic readings, and Lucy and my Oscar WIlde animation.

Now, we had been missing our Cecil Cardew for a while, and recruited someone from the other troupe (Boyfriend Robotique) to fill in. He did so with uncanny agility, making for a quite different and quite entertaining Cecil. In turn, I was asked to fill in for one of their wayward players, and did some incredibly last-minute character building, which seemed to go over quite well, but more importantly, was exceedingly fun! I played Roderick P Bruce, editor of P.S. I Love You Magazine, husband of Margaret Thatcher, lover of Elizabeth I, and Angela Lansbury's tempermental boss. (WTF?!)
Hopefully I can get some stills of that one, because it was (for the first time perhaps?) the bit of last minute performance that I was in no way frightened of, and found exhilerating.

Earnest (with the kind help of our two replacements, John Joseph and Mary) went over wonderfully! That Third Act was kindly documented by Alison.

I'm waiting for some more pics.

The burlesque acts, people. Amazing. I think that if someone asked me "So we're going to a burlesque show. Want to come?" I would reply, "Eehh... no. They never have the type of burlesque I like." I would be wrong about these. They were as if I had designed them to please myself! What do I like in my sexy?

1. Ballerina on point stripping down to a corset - CHECK.
2. Lesbian Master and Maid in which the master is dominated at the end - CHECK.
3. Man in vintage formalwear stripping down to tassles to live music provided by a crooning second man in a vintage tux - CHECK.

I wish I'd seen more of them, but they performed many times while I was changing. Everyone (especially the burlesque dancers) was so kind to me, and I made some wonderful and talented new friends.

Waiting for more images to show, but for now... have this.

loved up
Does anyone know who painted this portrait and when? It's apparently of de Sade, and archived in Berlin under a queer museum, but why was it painted? Looks modern by the style. I'm curious to know where these different interpretations of what he looked like came from, since I'm trying to determine my own interpretation now.
I love that all people who knew him either hate hate hate hate hated him for his behavior, or love love love love loved him for his personality. (sometimes both! Like his mother-in-law) I see him as a really lovely person who was horrifically intelligent, and became outraged because he saw how fucked up society is. And because of this, I can't research him for any project or pleasure without becoming distracted by how FUCKING COOL HE IS! Aaaagh Donatien you are so cool! Now where the hell was I...
Anyway, what I'm doing is trying to find a good Marquis-based story for my animation to be based on.. it's very difficult, as his stories tend to be either philosophical in nature, or a stark laundry list of depravities and torture. Surely I can find some snippit of story that doesn't involve a gross number of people.. Rrrr... I wish I had a copy of Philosophy of the Boudoir..

there he is!

Animated Genius!

Lucy made this, I consulted, watched her, and made it animate for her. She is awesome.
umm... *could* be a Half-Blood Prince spoiler.
We reccommend listening to loud upbeat orchestral music whilst watching it.

Puppetyrantry!

I know, I know. I'll stop.

My latest distraction from schoolwork: More puppets! These are made for stop-animation, so they have no joints, but they're in moveable pieces. They're inspired by Victorian shadow-profiles. The subject is Lord Alfred Douglas, (because it's a collab with Lucy's Oscar Wilde piece. So without further introduction...

Puppets... puppets...

More stills of the cabaret puppet show to come..

My shadow puppet set for the Elagabalus fable are done!! They are made of sturdy cereal boxes and include coloured elements.

However... they also seem to be posessed, and quickly taking on personalities anf relationships on their own accord.

Elagabalus, Heirocles, and the Vestal Virgin )

I love them.

More Shadows

Here we go..
New And Improved Shadow Puppet.. Emperor Elagabalus )

I think my performance (if I can get the script, the puppets, the choriography, the lighting, and the actors by the 13th when the nightclub is) will be about him, and involve transparent red rose petals. So many good Elagabalus fables to choose from.

ON a last note before I go to bed: A Quote!
"What's wrong with you, soldier?! You been having sex with women? I'll bet your DADDY had sex with WOMEN!"
